Sue Grey, President and CEO of United Way Champaign County

Sue has been a member of the United Way of Champaign County team since June 2006. Sue has over 38 years of experience working with the community bringing people and resources together to make lasting change and positive impact in our community.

Before joining United Way, Sue worked at Champaign Park District organizing community events, managing volunteers and working with the Board of Commissioners. Sue also spent three years with the Green Meadows Girl Scout Council as their CEO.

As a “Townie”, Sue has developed great community contacts and mobilizes those resources to better the quality of life for those in need in Champaign County. Sue is a member of Chapter HI PEO, an Alpha Phi Alumnae, class member of Leadership Illinois 2019. Sue was elected to the Champaign Unit 4 School Board in April of 2007 and again in 2011. She served as Board President for two years. Since 2020, Sue has served on the Board of Visitors for the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois.

Sue was a recipient of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Athena® Award in 2005. In 2012 she was selected as A Woman of Distinction by the East Central Illinois Girl Scout Council. In 2022, Sue was honored as a Distinguished alum from the Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation. Sue most recently received an Honorary Degree from Parkland Community College, in recognition of her service to the community.

Sue is married to Tom and has three children, Randi, Ryan and Catie and three grandchildren.

Where do you find your speakers?

Our breakout session speakers are carefully selected from a mix of community leaders, past She Said alum, authors, and industry-experts who are passionate about sharing their knowledge. Our speakers are local to cities where we have launched That's What She Said, and are involved with our mission to elevate the voices of women within our communities. If you are interested in becoming a speaker, let us know and we'll get in contact with you.

What topics do you cover in your breakout sessions?

Our breakout sessions vary from year to year, but we always try to offer a mixture of topics that focus on both personal and professional development. Past topics have focused on personal growth, storytelling, wellness, leadership, and empowerment. You can visit last year's website to see some more example's of past topics.

What will I take away from my sessions?

You can expect to come away from your sessions with new insights, tools, connections, and knowledge that can help you continue to pursue growth on the topic. These sessions are crafted not just to be attended and forgotten, but to leave you inspired and reflecting on how you can continue to develop and grow throughout your daily life. You'll come out of the conference feeling a new sense of empowerment and a deeper connection to the She Said community.

All of our attendees will have the opportunity to attend our Keynote Session along with 3 breakout sessions. We offer 2 different tracks for each breakout session so that you can customize your experience to match your interests and make the most of this exciting opportunity.
